It's essential to understand that the value of collectible items can vary significantly based on factors such as rarity, condition, and demand. At BlueChip Auctions, our experienced professionals are adept at evaluating these items and determining the most effective strategies for marketing and selling them.

Before consigning with us, you will need to provide a detailed inventory of the items you wish to sell. This inventory should include photographs, descriptions, and any other relevant information. Additionally, you should supply any documentation or proof of authenticity you have for the items, as this can enhance their value and appeal to potential buyers.

Once we receive this information, our team will review your consignment and decide on the best approach for marketing and selling your items. Regardless of the strategy employed, our goal is to maximize the value of your consigned items and ensure you achieve the highest possible return on your investment. We will keep you informed throughout the process and address any questions you may have.

We encourage you to contact BlueChip Auctions to learn more about the process and explore the opportunities available.

Photos

  • Use a high-quality camera. Most modern smartphones come equipped with excellent cameras, so you may not need a professional one. A good camera will help prevent blurry images and poor resolution.

  • Choose an appropriate background. A plain white background is usually the best option as it minimizes distractions and highlights your item.

  • Pay attention to lighting. For photographing small items like jewelry, a lightbox or light tent is ideal. Avoid shadows, glare, and other lighting issues that can make items appear cheap. If you lack artificial lighting, use natural light to achieve the best results.

  • Photograph from different angles. Ensure that your viewers can see your items from multiple perspectives. Providing various views offers more information about the item and helps potential buyers notice all distinguishing marks, brands, or flaws. The more information provided, the more likely a bid will be placed.

  • Ensure the picture is large enough. Avoid photographing items from a distance. People want to see details, so get close and use as much space as possible.

  • Turn off the flash. Flash can create an unattractive glare on your items. Instead, use available lighting creatively to illuminate your items effectively.

  • Use a tripod. A tripod helps stabilize your camera, preventing motion blur and ensuring your pictures are clear and steady.

  • Enhance the presentation of your items. While a white background is often the best choice, you can add features to your photo if necessary. For example, display clothing or jewelry on a mannequin or model to give viewers a better idea of how these items will look.

  • Avoid cluttering your pictures. While adding features can help showcase items, do not overdo it. Keep the main item as the focal point and avoid using too many props that may distract from the item itself.

  • Edit your photos. Learn to use image editing software to enhance your photos. Even if your initial shoot didn’t go as planned with lighting or other aspects, editing can improve the final result. We can also assist with the editing process.

Quick tip: Avoid using the zoom feature when taking photos. Zooming in can reduce the quality of the image and result in pixelation.

Copy

The description should tell the story of your item and engage the buyer with details such as where it was acquired and any information on its provenance. It should also narrate your listing's images by describing the texture, finish, color, measurements, weight, and construction details.

We require verification of the brand or manufacturer for all designer submissions, as well as for select vintage pieces. If you do not provide this information in your description, your listing will be marked as being produced "in the manner of" the said designer.

Make sure to use full, complete, and grammatically correct copy. Include information on the color, texture, surface quality, and finish. When listing a set or pair, describe the number of pieces included in the listing and the measurements for each.

Bidding

Our online auctions are conducted on LiveAuctioneers. Potential bidders must create an account at www.liveauctioneers.com and register to bid online.

  • The bidder is solely responsible for all bids placed from their account and confirms their legal ability to enter into a binding contract.

  • The bidder agrees to pay all shipping costs or, if they choose not to pay for shipping, to cover the cost of all items and notify the auction of their intent to abandon their purchases without remuneration. (In other words, you agree to pay for items even if you do not intend to receive them without paying for shipping.)

  • The bidder agrees to contact the auction within 5 days of receiving any item that has undisclosed shipping damage, was inaccurately described, or is missing from the shipment.

  • It is at the sole discretion of the auction management to address and remedy any issues as they see fit.

  • The bidder agrees to pick up all items within the allotted time frame or make alternative arrangements within 3 days of the auction's close.

  • The bidder acknowledges that this is a direct/flat bid auction, where any bid placed will become the new winning bid unless outbid by other participants.

  • The highest bidder on a lot shall be the buyer of that lot. The purchase price will be the sum of: 1) the price at which the item is sold (hammer price), 2) a buyer’s premium equal to 12% of the first $500,000 of the bid price, plus 3) sales tax, unless the purchaser is legally exempt from such taxes.
